Cass Plumbing and Heating, Inc. was founded in 1948 by Shelton W. Cass a native of Oklahoma who moved to San Diego in 1927 at the age of 21. He embarked on his career as an assistant at Merkeley Mortuary. After several years he transferred to Harold Steven’s Plumbing where he worked as a bookkeeper and worked his way up to General Manager. Shelton then began studying at home in his time off for his Master Plumber’s License.

After gaining his Master Plumber’s license Shelton Cass opened Cass Plumbing & Heating, Inc. During this time Shelton also started a family with his wife Lucille Cass and they had two children. The youngest, Scott Cass, was to take over Cass Plumbing.

Scott Cass began working at Cass Plumbing, after school and during the summer, as a shop boy in 1971. Scott graduated High School and entered SDSU as a Business major and began splitting his time between the field and the office doing the bookkeeping. In 1978 Scott graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. In 1980 Scott attended the ROP Apprenticeship program, which he completed in 1983 and attained his journeyman plumber’s card.

In 1985 Shelton Cass passed away and Scott Cass began managing Cass Plumbing & Heating, Inc. full-time. Scott also began teaching ROP classes, two-nights a week until retiring, 15 years later, in June of 2000.
